Yesterday was the open house at SFSU's Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies. Rika does her graduate lab work there. (Her project involves phytoplankton and is best described to children using spirograph toys.) It's up in the North Bay. We got to meet Rika's parents, too!
Too bad it's just once a year. I don't think I learned much, but it was pretty fun. The mood was friendly. Those scientists spend a lot of time with just their lab and seemed happy to have people to talk to about their work.
They had yummy BBQ and a nice lil band that played a cover of the Magnetic Fields' "All the Umbrellas in London" (which was stuck in my head for the rest of the evening).
I also met one of Rika's roommates - Stephanie. She's a lot of fun, too.
Then we got dinner at The Outback. I can't even remember the last time I went there. I'd forgotten how much I love the warm, brown complimentary bread. mmmm!
