. . . at the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf! wooo!!1
As expected, the wax figures were really creepy. Many of them didn't even look like their inspiration, such as Carol Burnett and Princess Grace. And Oprah looked like a cross between Oprah and Diana Ross. Barry Bonds looked pretty scary. Harry Truman looked shifty. There was a section of guys in suits (mostly. Tom Cruise had on a hoodie), such as Willie Brown and John Travolta. But Denzel Washington was stuck in the back corner glaring. And why did they have to use Jack Nicholson's creepy Joker grin (but without the Joker make up)? Mata Hari wasn't anything like what I expected. Kinda frumpy.
Anyways, I only saw Rika for a couple minutes. She had to work ticket sales for a bit and I never saw her after that. She looked really cute in her cat ears and gloves and all.
There were hundreds of people there. I had sneakers on and my feet were quite sore by the end of it. Instead of just wandering around one apartment or house for a few hours, we all wandering around a big loop of museum exhibits. I probly walked two miles down there! There was good people watching from the benches in front of The Last Supper. It wasn't really my kind of party, but I still had a good time. We got breakfast at Cafe Mason afterwards.
The photos are from Kevin, although I took the two of him at the museum. Some guy asked for a picture with me and I felt as though I was working at an amusement park, playing Batgirl for tourists.
Such a long weekend, and it's only Sunday morning.
Friday evening
The new Momus album, Ocky Milk, arrived. I had just enough time to load it into iTunes and change into a skirt before my roommates and I went to dinner at the fab Golden Era. Oh, those steamed vegi buns! Yum!
Danielle and I went to Friday Night Blues. They had a great live band this week. Danielle did pretty darn well for it being her first go at blues dancing. Trixie showed up a lil late due to St. Louis winning the World Series. Go somebody else's home team!
I wore Halloween colors. There were some people in actual costumes. Elwood from the Blues Brothers and Wonder Woman were the most memorable. It was a good night. I didn't even hurt myself!
Saturday
Breakfast at the Lucky Penny with Justin on our way to the Lemony Snicket / Gothic Archies performance down the Peninsula. We didn't get lost driving there or anything! We got seats in the fourth row, on the Stephin Merritt side of the stage.
Daniel Handler and Stephin Merritt were, of course, incredibly entertaining. They even played one of my favorite songs from the Snicket CD, Shipwrecked. Everyone had a great time, says I.
Afterwards, we went to Shaw's, which is a candy & ice cream shop. You can smell the mass amounts of sugar before you even open the door! I got yum yum yummy pumpkin ice cream. They have generous portions, too.
Then we went to the Haight to get accessories for Justin's costume, Disco Stu. It was insanely busy, as expected. We got a parking spot on Haight, though, and considering how crazy busy it was, the shopping trip was fairly painless.
I'll post about the costume party when I get the photos from Kevin. I didn't bother using my camera at the museum.
ooo, I'm so excited about this weekend. It's finally here!
Tonight, Danielle and I (and anyone else I can get to join us) are going to Friday Night Blues dancing. I haven't been there in, like, months! I miss it and everyone there so much. I plan to wear orange and black, too, for Halloween's sake.
Saturday is a performance by Lemony Snicket and The Gothic Archies, with an appearance by Brett Helquist, down the peninsula. I've only heard Stephin Merritt perform live once, when Future Bible Heroes toured back in, oh 2003 or 2004. His albums are completely wonderful and he's even better live. I must remember to bring my camera.
Saturday night is the costume party Rika (who plans to dress as an Aristo-cat, meow!) invited me to. It'll be at the wax museum on Fisherman's Wharf. It's put together by the Young Scadanavian Club (of which Rika is a member, being Swedish as she is) and I hear those people can party. If her hangover complaints are any indication, Rika can party, too! Kevin (who bought a big ugly plastic sword at Target for some costume or other) may even join us! I've already added some orange to my hair to make me look more like Batgirl. woo! Batgirl!
This is my first forray into false lashes. I bought these at the fab Sephora. They're made of feathers!
I, of course, practiced with some simple, naturalistic lashes from Walgreens. Those weren't too troublesome. The feathers took more effort. The first time I tried to glue 'em down, I thought, Wow, these are heavy. Wait, I've just glued my eyelids together. Too much glue can be bad.
Now I don't have to figure that out this Saturday before the party Rika invited me to. Of course, to see anything, I have to keep my eyes pretty wide open. But they are in place of an eye mask, and those things always impede one's sight so that's reasonable.
If you are going to dress up for Halloween, what will you be? Why?
